Not to be outdone, LI Joe takes UMK3 at ECT4, his own tournament!

UMK3

Limitless congratulations go to LI Joe for his years of tireless effort in the fighting game community, but none more noteworthy than winning UMK3, which as far as I’m (Shock) aware, was the only tournament he played in, but I could be wrong. And to think, he almost turned it down due to being incredibly busy running the tournament with Sweet Johnny Cage. Also, congratulations to Chin, who made his highest placement to date. As long as there is UMK3 at majors, he’ll keep playing it!

I’d like to make some apologies to players who had to leave Saturday and early Sunday. A lot of new MK players might not be aware of the hype and love for UMK3, but it’s there, and it’s real. It’s also the foundation of what things like VSM and KombatNetwork were built upon. Even with new games out, we still pay homage to UMK3 and run a tournament for it at every major. ECT advertises UMK3 and John and Joe manage to participate even when it’s nearly impossible to do so.

AC1984, who is always an odds on favorite in any UMK3 tournament had to leave early Sunday and forfeit, also DarkNatas and Lord Hades had to leave early as well. We attempted to take sign ups Saturday night but there was so much hype and a packed room of over 500 people, that it was impossible to run any side tournament of what would have been around 24 players, most of which play multiple games. We also had several new players who wanted to participate but weren’t available Sunday. The tournament dwindled down to 11 by Sunday, even though I saw a number of players milling around who would have played if they signed up before we went through the byes. This was a FREE entry tournament anyone who preregged for UMK3 will be refunded (the 4 of them), so contact Shock, John, or Joe about that.
